LIVE OAK, Fla. (AP) — President Joe Biden on Saturday saw from the sky Hurricane Idalia’s impact across a swath of Florida before he set out on a walking tour of a city recovering from the storm. Notably absent was Gov. The entrance to the Burning Man counterculture festival in the Nevada desert was closed and attendees were urged to shelter in place Saturday as flooding from storms swept through the area.The entrance will be closed for the remainder of the event, which began on Aug. 27 and was scheduled to end on Monday, according to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, which oversees the Black Rock Desert where the festival is being held.About 6 inches (15 centimetres) of rain is believed to have fallen on Friday at the festival site, located approximately 110 miles (177 kilometres) north of Reno, the National Weather Service in Reno said. Another quarter of a foot of rain is expected late Saturday into Sunday.Organizers urged festivalgoers to conserve their food, water and fuel. AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department is seeking more information on a fatal crash that happened around 5 a.m. Aug. 25 in southeast Austin.Officers responded to the single-vehicle crash in the 4500 block of South Pleasant Valley Road, where the driver of the pickup truck died at the scene. Police said the deceased driver hasn't been identified.Police are investigating the incident as the city's 60th fatal crash this year. In total, there are have been 63 traffic-related fatalities so far in 2023, compared to 67 fatal crashes resulting in 68 deaths at the same time in 2022.The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact APD's Vehicular Homicide unit by calling 512-974-811. WALKER COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — The Texas A&M Forest Service is responding to a nearly 4,000-acre fire blazing in Walker County near Houston, officials said in a social media post Saturday.Officials said the fire — dubbed the Game Preserve Fire — is 3,800 acres in size and 20% contained as of late Saturday morning. A smoke shop in Highland Park is the latest local business to fall victim to a smash-and-grab robbery.According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to the area of South Avenue 55 and Figueroa Street at 4:37 a.m. Saturday morning on radio calls of a burglary. Surveillance footage from the business shows the suspects entering an office and hastily stealing cash from a drawer in addition to other items, including cigarette cartons. The store's owner says they took nearly $9,000 worth of merchandise.The four suspects fled in a silver sedan that appeared to have no back license plate. (BCN) -- Police in Brentwood arrested a former staff member at a Heritage High School football game Friday evening. Carlos Hurtado, a 27-year-old man from Oakley, had previously received a trespass admonishment to stay away from the school campus. Mountain View High School football team honors team mom who died at game On Friday, at approximately 7:25 p.m., police officers were alerted by the principal and attempted to approach Hurtado. Hurtado fled on foot in an effort to escape the officers, but was ultimately tackled by bystanders within the football stadium, Brentwood police said. Hurtado was taken into custody for allegedly disrupting a school activity, trespassing and obstruction. He was later booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.
